PARENTS UNDER CONSTRUCTION RECEIVES
STATE
AWARD FOR PROGRAM EXCELLENCE
ChildBuilders' Parents Under
Construction program has been selected to receive the Award
for Program Excellence from Prevent Child Abuse Texas. The
award will be presented to the program's founding author,
Janet Pozmantier, on January 23rd at the closing luncheon
of the Sixteenth Annual Conference on the Prevention of Child
Abuse at the San Antonio Omni Hotel.
When she heard the news,
Ms. Pozmantier said, "We are delighted that Prevent Child
Abuse Texas has chosen Parents Under Construction for this
award. I hope the recognition will help more children receive
the program. Our goal is to prevent child abuse by teaching
children today the parenting skills they will need in the
future."
Mr. Wendell Teltow, Executive
Director of Prevent Child Abuse Texas, said that the work
that ChildBuilders is performing is a great asset to the children
of the state. The Parents Under Construction program teaches
positive parenting techniques such as redirection, modeling
and consistency to children pre-k through high school. Since
1992, this research-based curriculum has won three previous
awards and has given thousands of children and adolescents
the tools they need to build healthy relationships today and
strong families tomorrow. The curricula are available in Spanish
as well as English and include optional activities that can
be used with parents. For more information, go to ChildBuilders'
website at www.ChildBuilders.org.
ChildBuilders, formerly known as
HAMIC, founded in 1974, is a non-profit organization committed
to making a positive impact on children and their families
in our community. ChildBuilders provides prevention, early
intervention and education to build awareness and support
for emotionally healthy children and families.
