| For many years, ChildBuilders has
been aware of the lack of children’s mental health
information and the stigma attached to these issues.
Mental health problems are a source of stress for the
child as well as the family, school, community and larger
society. It is estimated
that one in five children in the U.S. are affected by mental,
emotional and behavior disorders.
ChildBuilders believes in early identification and
prevention of mental illness in children. Public misperceptions
about mental illness, healthy child development and parent
education must be addressed. This idea became the vision
to create ChildBuilders’ Community Education Program.
In the fall of 1998, our vision became
a reality with an initial three-year grant from the Hogg Foundation for
Mental Health. The funding provided us with resources
to distribute accurate, up-to-date information about
children’s mental health issues. The online brochures
provide information about healthy child development and effective
parenting practices. |
